“Single”

Dreaming Trees
Sam DeRose Jr

“Dreaming Trees” moves away from the harder arena-rock direction of DeRose’s other recordings and into a more atmospheric, cinematic setting. Layered vocals, restrained textures, and a sense of suspended motion allow the arrangement to unfold gradually. Rather than relying on direct pop-rock impact, the song places equal emphasis on melody, space, and imagery.

The fretless bass provides the recording’s central melodic thread. Its rounded tone and vocal-like phrasing keep the track anchored as the surrounding production becomes more spacious. The bass operates as a lead voice without separating itself from the song, shaping transitions and reinforcing the movement of the arrangement.

The recording is intentionally more ornate and less immediate than DeRose’s rock-driven material, and that contrast is part of its identity. “Dreaming Trees” expands his nuevo pop approach through harmony-rich writing, textural production, and an arrangement in which the electric bass guides the song from within rather than remaining in the background. Together, these elements create a piece that develops through musical detail rather than force.
