“Solo Bass” is a 17-track instrumental album built entirely from electric bass. Rather than using the instrument only as a rhythmic foundation, the arrangements place it in every musical role: melody, harmony, counterpoint, rhythm, percussion, and orchestration.

Every musical part originates from individually performed electric bass tracks, without relying on traditional guitars, keyboards, or orchestral instruments. The performances were recorded without pitch or time correction, preserving the natural phrasing, dynamics, and physical character of the instrument.

The album moves between classical repertoire, familiar melodies, original compositions, and contemporary instrumental writing. “Speak Softly, Love” is reworked through carefully layered bass parts, while “Il Sospetto” translates the individual voices of Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Minor—violins, viola, cello, and bass—into separately performed electric-bass lines.

This approach allows the counterpoint and movement of the original composition to remain recognizable while changing its tone and scale. Rather than attempting to imitate an orchestra literally, the arrangement uses different registers, articulations, and bass tones to distinguish each musical part.

Original works such as “J.A.N.B.” move in another direction, combining classical influence with funk, shifting tonal colors, and modern bass techniques. Across the album, clean melodic phrasing, percussive passages, distorted textures, and multitracked harmonies are used as compositional tools rather than isolated demonstrations.

The technical demands are substantial, but the performances remain connected to the structure of each piece. The bass functions as a solo voice, rhythm section, harmonic instrument, and arranging system, allowing each recording to develop as a complete work rather than as a showcase built around one technique.

“Solo Bass” presents the electric bass as a self-contained musical language. By limiting the album to one instrument, the project examines how far its range, tone, and phrasing can be extended while keeping the

music organized, melodic, and compositionally focused.
